When we got our first digital camera, it came with a 256mb SD, but we upgraded to a 512mb right away. This wasn't too long ago either- 2002 or something like that

Back in the day, my first digital camera was a point and shoot, and I had a 16MB CF card.
Now I use 4GB cards. As part of my backup strategy, before I empty/reformat the card, I burn its contents to DVDs as secondary backup (2 copies remain on hard drives too).

First digital camera was a weatherproof Kodak DC5000. It came with... wait for it... a whole 8Mb CF card. I upgraded to 2x 32Mb before long! Next was an Olympus which came with 16Mb XD, I bought a 128Mb right away and then when acquriing more Olympii (is that a word?) eventually got some 2G XD cards. These days I have 2, 4 and 8G cards and a variety of dslr and point and shooters. I won't ever go over 8G and I'm contemplating reverting to 2 or 4 anyway, as I almost never take enough shots to even go close to half-filling even a 2G card. I've got the 8G in cameras that do video...just in case... though I haven't yet used that capability except in testing.

I used the one the camera came with being a 2G card and graduated to an 8G because I thought I wanted to shoot RAW. Been shooting RAW for two weeks now and have yet to go into my Mac OS system to retrieve the images and edit them... But I have a lot of space! LOL

My first digital Camera was also the Sony Mavica w/floppy disks and bought an externel floppy for downloading those old pics. My passion is gardening and taken photos of Mother Nature so I can have those images all the time. Just need to find a good photo quality printer!!!!!
Have owned a couple point and click after that with 1GB and 2GB and now have a Cannon Rebel T1i and I use the 4GB. And just keep a couple in the camera bag just in case!!

Howdy

I now have three SanDisk Extreme IV 8GB cards. I can get about 1200 images on one card [depending...]. These replace several 2GB and 4GB cards that I have been using in my Canon 50D [I give the old ones to my daughter]. In the past, I have used Sandisk Ultra II, PNY, and Lexar Pro cards.

I like the speed of the Extreme IV cards--I can shoot for many seconds at 6fps and almost never overload the buffer. These cards also unload very quickly.
