I know it's been awhile since this article was posted, but I typically used my diaper bag to carry my D40. Diaper make great padding! BUt in preparations for a 10 day trip to Hawaii with my hubby I was looking for just what is described in this article. Something Feminine, but that can hold what I need for the day AND my two lenses (although by the trip I might add a couple more!). Anyway I haven't purchased one yet, but I think the one I'll get is from jototes. They are absotlutely adorable purses...made to be camera bags. So excited about the possibility of getting one!

I use a cooler bag also. The plastic lining offers protection if it starts to rain. A padded insert (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003WQNLBY/ref=oh_o04_s00_i00_details) provides extra protection for lenses.

I use cooler bags! I got a nice one at Canadian Tire by Coleman that looks like a shoulder purse with funky patterns and thick padding which cost me next to nothing. The drawback is the lack of separators inside, so I place cloths in the bag to protect the lenses etc.

I too have been searching for the perfect womans' camera bag.
I crafted my own from a compartmented purse and padding from an old bag. the padding velcros together.
The bottom makes me nervous because there is NO padding and all the equipment rests on it, so folded towel there.
While this is a shoulder bag, it is most uncomfortable and not good for dedicated outdoor photo expeditions.
Still looking for a bag with strap like conventional camera bag.
If only Vera would take this product line on!

I have to say, it's definitely worth investing in a camera bag to protect your expensive equipment. One day I got so sick of my Lowepro bag I started chancing it by carrying my SLR in my normal day bags. I swear I was extra careful with it when I placed it on the floor but when I next took it out the screen had cracked (internal bleeding). Luckily I had one month of warranty left!

Long story short now I have two bags, *emera and ketti, which I use interchangeably depending on the occasion. I feel so stylish using the *emera bag when I carry my laptop in it to work compared to those horrible looking laptop cases that everyone else at work is carrying haha!

Both brands are from the US but I managed to find a UK supplier, I'm pretty sure they are the only company here in UK that sell them. Check them out as they stock a few other brands too - www.cosycameras.co.uk - hope that helps!

Great post. With all the fashion out there, the ugly black camera bags sold at local stores do not fit in with the times.

Of all the sites I've visited, there were the best for a CLASSY looking bag.

http://cheekylime.com/shop.html/

http://www.emerabags.com/shop.html

http://www.epiphaniebags.com/

http://kellymoorebag.com/index.php

***ANOTHER OPTION***

Buy a luggage messenger, messenger, large tote, satchel, etc... and then go to WWW.ETSY.COM and look for "camera purse insert" and buy the padding to put into your bag if you want to switch out occasionally.

Hope this helps the next newbie photographer with a passion for fashion.

Has anyone had much experience with the LowePro Passport Sling? It's not as dressy as some options suggested here, but it seems like an easy, casual bag to use out and about on the town with a lens or two and personal space for accessories.
