Haven't seen any comments on the canon powershot sx40, bought in November love it, still learning great shots and amazing 35x zoom. It's as close to getting a slr but no extra lenses. If anyone has one would love some tips!

Sorry to see that my Nikon L110 didn't make the list. You wouldn't believe some of the photos I shot with the camera. Its been a real workhorse for me. At last count it was at 9700 photos and it is still going strong. I still take it along with me even when I am carrying my DSLR.......

Hi,
I'm new here and almost new to photography. I used to have an Olympus 790SW which was lovely, but I want a bit more options, especially more zoom functions.
But ... as a newby, I'm totally mixed up now. So many possibilities.
I have been looking at the Olympus SP 800-UZ.
Anyone any thoughts about that one? Please??

I purchased my first digital camera about a month ago. It's a Nikon coolpix L110. My husband and I do weddings and other things as well as general photography. I did a lot of research before buying this camera and with my budget of around $200 it was the best one with the best optical zoom I could find. I was taught some about photography when I was teen by a professional photographer in town. He photographed famous people including his children. One of them was a a concert harpist. He swore by the Nikon brand. Of course his were not digital then(20 ish yrs ago). So I finally bought my Nikon and i love it! The zoom is better then my husband's Pentax istDL 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera with zoom lens. I recently used it at a wedding job we had and the pictures were amazing! I love it! The video feature could use some help, but it's not terrible. I love the sports setting. It takes a bunch of pictures one after the other so it looks like it's a video. The pictures are a bit on the grainy side though on this setting. I am attaching some pictures I have taken with this camera. Oh yeah...it's 12.1 mp15 x zoom 3.0 inch LCD and it's red! I love it!
Mahesh, any of the cameras you have listed will make a fine super zoom camera, but certainly not pocket size!
I would go with the Panasonic FZ35, then the Canon, and last the Nikon. The Panasonic seems to have the others beat on noise and sharpness, and it's a very good value for the price.

And Rich, some of the newest point and shoots have a very bright and clear screen that makes it easy to shoot even in bright sunlight conditions, although still not quite as easy as with a viewfinder, but acceptable. And the brightness is adjustable. I have no problems with my Canon SX210 IS, but a Kodak 1485 was not usable at all outdoors on a sunny day.

This category has been ruined because the camera companies have eliminated the viewfinder and put in a bunch of stupid features that most point and shooters don't need or want. Many shots will be missed due to bright sun and glare that most point and shooters will probably not mind. I am a point and shooter because I like to carry my camera in my pocket all the time and I find the lack of a viewfinder a serious negative to my photography. So my only defense is to use my older cameras and not purchase any new ones, hoping the camera companies will realize their error and put the viewfinder back. How much could it cost? I'd gladly pay extra for a viewfinder.
