My distrust of iphoto lead me down the wrong direction in my last post! While I wish a PPC version was available, Picasa on intel Macs is awesome. I use PCs too so I was thrilled to hear that Picasa had finally made it to my OS of choice. I'm no professional photographer so I don't need the likes of lightroom or aperture. Picasa will detect faces, do geo tagging, sync automatically with picasaweb, upload to Facebook, Twitter and with plug-ins, other photo hosting sites like Smugmug (my personal fav). It handles videos and youtube uploads.
I find it intuitive, fast and clean. Google just keeps putting out more and more gold.

As a Mac technician I have the pleasure of dealing with corrupt iphoto libraries weekly. While 2009 seems to have improved the stability, I've just seen too much damage caused by iPhoto. While I think you're an idiot if you don't back up important data, dealing with crying fathers who have lost their children's photos is pretty damned hard.
Even if you choose to keep your folders separate from the (enormous) single library container file, iPhoto still has a tendency to lose your albums, book templates, slideshows etc that take forever to organise. On top of that, iPhoto will not monitor your folders (you can use automator, but that's a but outside the realm of the average user) if you choose to organise pictures yourself. Picasa on the other hand will monitor your hard drive (minus any folders you choose not to watch) and automatically incorporate new images into your library. That seals the deal for me. I still use iPhoto to make books - they're amazing - but I export my Picasa photos into little iphoto libraries for specific photo books.
I'll close with this - no matter what you use - back up your data. It's only a matter of time before your hard drive dies. PC or Mac.

I definitely love picasa way more than iphoto. I was very disappointed when I switched from PC and had to use iPhoto. So glad this is here... thought I hope this doesn't give any indication as to how long it will take Chrome to land on Mac (took Picasa more than 3 years).

In related news, there was an update released earlier today that is meant to fix the problem with it crashing with certain TIFF images, notably Photomatix images.

Yes, that's right. Picasa will not run on any G5 - it is Intel only...

I just downloaded Picassa. I have a G5 Power Mac single processor running Leopard. I read in lots of comments that Picassa for Mac does not support Power PC macs. Does that mean I can't use Picassa on this Mac? Is it made for only Intel Macs? Should I delete it?

I wonder if I could export my photos from Aperture to Picasa Web Albums the way I can export form Aperture to Flickr? Any news on that? I know that there's an export option from iPhoto to PWA and that I can access my Aperture Library from within iPhoto but it's so un-mac a sollution ;)
So unless there's a true Aperture to Picasa Web Albums export I'm not switching from Flickr. And the only reason for me to switch would be the unlimited albums one can have in Google's sollution vs. Flickr's only 3 in the free account.
Could someone help me on this please,

I agree with Jason, if you are serious get Aperture 2 and plug- ins as needed. Ditto concerning iPhoto.
