I was remember back to high school photography and even my first few photography classes. Most of my instructor kept saying. "Do not break the rules, Mayo!" Subjects should be entering your images they said. They should never be leaving.

Over the years I found that it is ok to break the rules. I glad to see that you include topics and examples of how and when a rule can be broken.

Maybe instead of rules we should call them tools. Tools are intended to be used when appropriate only.

I hope we can someday do a shoot together.

I tried to do something like the dog's photo with a tennis player of whom I'm a fan.
I'm not sure I was successful though, lol.

Thanks for these tips, Darren.

Another rule I like breaking, although its something I haven't had much success with yet, or the picture doesnt fall easy on my own eyes, and haven't been comfortable to use it because of that, but when I get a new camera in a month, it will be something I'll work on more.

Interesting article. Even if it's a great idea to leave the subject in front of the space, some pictures seem unbalanced, like the running dog. I think it is important to have a trail of feeling of a trail behind the subject. Otherwise the subject is tipping the image to one side.

Wait! No one told me there were rules...lol. Photography is an art form. If there is a way to break away from the norm GO THERE. Beautiful example pictures. Great suggestions. Thanks.

Interesting and very informative tutorial. I just wonder though how many Camera Club Judges will agree with or even accept your comments.
