Since my last post:

(July 21st, 2010 at 5:50 am

Over 40, maybe over 50. I still own 18 (if I count the ones I gave to the girlfriend – she’s the real Photographer, I’m the collector and novice). These are the ones that come to mind, in chronological order:

Sony Mavica: MVC-FD83 and MVC-91 (the 83 is a still, the 91 is a camcorder, both use floppy drives, and both still work)
Olympus: C2020(stolen), C3030 (its replacement)
Canon Powershots: A70, A80, A620, A630, A640 (3), A650 (2), A710; SD600, SD630, SD750, SD780 (3), SD800, SD880 (2), SD990; S60, S70, S80; S2, S5; SX 100, SX110, SX10 (2); and G5, G7 (2), G10 (2)
Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3, DMC-TZ4, DMC-SZ3 (2), DMC-FX150, DMC-LX3
Nikon: D90 (2), D300

There were others, but those came and went quickly. With the exception of maybe 4 on this list (one is at the bottom of the Red Sea, two were stolen, one died at the hands of a water bottle in a purse) , all are still operational and close by in the way of friends and family. Let’s just say they lucked out on this particular aspect of my (undiagnosed) OCD.

I still own: the Sonys (as fossils); Powershots A620, A650 (both), SD780 (2), SD990; SX10 (both), G10; Lumix DMC-ZS3 (both), DMC-FX150, DMC-LX3; and all 3 Nikons.

After just recently making the jump to DSLRs, I am moving all but the Nikons, the A650, S10 (both), DMC-ZS3 (both), DMC-LX3, and exchanging the G10 for a G11 or S90. (Probably both.)

I think I may have a little bit of a camera mania.

I also have/had a case or more for each of the cameras on the list, and still own 12 camera backpacks made by Lowepro, Tenba, Crumpler, and Tamrac.

I just recently stopped collecting iPods (I still have the 80GB Classic, 16GB Nano, and 64GB Touch),; cutlery (I still have the Wusthof, Haenckels, and Wolfgang Puck block sets); potracks (I still own all three in my two-room studio); and cookware (hence the potracks, and I still own the Circulon and Calphalon non-stick, and Rachael Ray and Emeril Lagasse stainless steel).

I once owned 8,000 books),

I have kept (of the above) only the: Nikon D90, Nikon D300; Canon A630, A650; and Panasonic LX3. The rest I sold or gave away. I have since added the: Canon A410, G6, G11, SD1100, and S95 (2); Panasonic FX150, LX2 and LX5.

The Powershot A410 and and Lumix DMC- FX150 were throw-ins to a couple of Lowepro camera cases I bought ($15 and $20, respectively), the Powershot SD1100 was a throwaway I fixed, and the Powershot G6 and Lumix LX2 were mint condition steals $50 apiece.

I'm off to purchase an unboxed, mint condition Nikon S9100 off craigslist.

some Kodak 3mp P&S impulse buy to meet my high volume shutterbugging needs (used for 3 months- someone dropped it) crappy quality anyway :P I remember when I set it to the lowest quality setting to get in more shots. I was about quanitity!!! (and sharing w/o scanning)
some Nikon 4mp P&S gifted to me (1.5 years-dropped it in soup when passing camera around) slooooow shutter speed and slow shutter lag. decent colors! Started to use max resolution for potential 4x6 prints.
Canon S5IS bridge (has been my baby for three years but is starting to break on me) bad high ISO noise > 400. Other than that, it's a wonderful camera. I became a shutterbug turned serious photographer.
New addition to family: Nikon d5100 ^___________^

A Casio Exilim 600 - nice for my first digital camera, but it got stolen after about 2 years
Panasonic Lumix FZ-50 - Several years old now, but nice, and I like it's default color, slightly warm
Nikon CoolPix P90 - Smaller than the Panasonic and with a longer zoom, so I use this more, but don't like the cooler color. I take photos of local wildlife (wild turkeys, deer, coyotes, bobcats), so I need the longer zoom.
Someday I will graduate to a DSLR, and I'm looking forward to that, but I'm happy enough with the two I use.

Firstly the first of the sub $1000 DSLRs, the Canon EOS 300D. Loved it and took some great photos until it had an electronic heart attack and died. I replaced that with an EOS 400D which I also loved. That went for an unauthorised swim in a waterfall and then suffered heat stroke when the warmish oven that I was trying to dry it in overheated!! It did try to work for a bit but eventually gave up the ghost. I've replaced that with another EOS 400D whilst I save for the EOS 600D that I have my eye on. Of course, if I win the Euromillions I'll go a bit further up market :)

I started with a Sony Mavica CD400 because I didn't even want to know about memory cards and this camera used a CD to record. I was just fine with my Nikon F100 for regular photography and I got the Sony to photograph product for my website. Then I got hooked on "instant gratification" and no wasting film if I wanted to shoot a bunch of photos. I stayed with Nikon because I had an embarrassing number of lenses and didn't want to start over..and I was happy with the Nikon. Got a D70S and then when the D80 came out, I upgraded and then again to the D90, which I happily use now. If I was going to change again, I think that what it would take to give me something that would make me happier would be so far out of my price range that it would take a mortgage on my house to pay for it. Why do that when for way less money I get get a new long lens (help me, someone! It's an addiction! I'm in a self help group, but unfortunately, we meet every Monday morning at B & H)
