Beth, questions that help you learn a not silly! That actually is something you want to ask before purchasing a camera. And yeah this camera does have depth of field settings. You can either use it as a point and shoot in the automatic mode, or you can go into the aperture priority mode or the manual mode to change the settings. As you know aperture changed depth of field, so anytime you change this, you are changing what is in and out of focus. If you like, you can email me at crysgriffin@hotmail.com and I can help you with this camera. I just bought it last month and already have learned a bit about it! This is really an excellent camera if you don't intend on spending $800+ on equipment! Hope this helps!

Hi Im wondering will this camera focus in on a subject and be unfocused on the background? I think it's called depth of field, This may seem like a silly question but Im really new to taking anything more then quick poor-quility snapshots. Thanks

Just a daft pointer as we've been asked it a number of times, the FD in S1500FD stands for 'face Detection', a graphic example is shown here: http://s1500fd.co.uk/2010/01/12/answered-what-does-the-fd-mean-in-s1500fd/

***********************
First off, Fujifilm is adding Tracking Auto Focus to the Fujifilm FinePix S1500, a system that functions by pressing the shutter button halfway to lock a subject in target, following the movement of that subject throughout the entire frame.
***********************

Hey how do you do this...can you explain?

Just purchased the Fujifilm S1500 about a week ago. Cost me $162.00 with shipping and so far I love it. Just so you know I do not think it is capable of taking pictures in RAW, and there are no threads on the lens so using filters is a bit challenging. I am looking at getting a Cokin A300 point and shoot adapter to see how that works. George.

I have one of these. I am having an issue where it takes 1.5 or 2 seconds (or a bit more) between the time I press the shutter release and the actuation takes place. I have missed a lot of 'moments' because of this. I have tried it in the different modes with the same results. Is there something in the settings I need to check/redo, etc.???
