I had always been a pc user. My son and I are the techies in the family. We got my hubby a mac. He would mess up the pc somehow all the time. He loved his mac. We loved our pc's. I love photography, want to make it my business. After research, and so much time spent on the phone with technical assistants with all my pcs I had owned and after my pc crashing and me loosing 5 years of valuable pictures (I had backed up my pc to an external hard drive I thought thats another story). Result: I bought a 13" macbook pro. I just started using Lightroom and have ordered Adobe Photoshop Elements 8. Would love to have had CS4, but cant afford it. Now that I have a mac I will never go back. It was hard for me to switch, Mac is different to get used to but once you do, its awesome!! Miss my big 17" screen, but now I can hook this up to our 42" flatscreen HD tv and have the monitor of dreams!! But still have the portability of the little lightweight mac. And I actually use my computer now instead of spending all my time on the phone to technical assistants controlling my computer. Love my Mac!!

There aint no Vistas there aint no Views and there certainly aint any vistas of no views...

(name the movie)

I have a PC, but that does not make me a PC. I am a MAC in my heart. I just couldn't afford it. And when I was in the market last year, noone had a GIGANTIC laptop - with a gigantic monitor.

So, I paid a gigantic price with my sanity and bought HP/Vista.

NIGHTMARE...

when I grow up I wanna be a MAC - they HAVE to make a huge screen laptop - I am portable and i need it.

just stumbled upon this _very_ old thread...
Me: runnin (K)Ubuntu (Studio) most of the time as of now... ...on a "something" with a CPU & hdd in it.
And no - unfortunately - it's not a Mac. I always wanted to experience for myself but never felt the urge to finally come around and DO it for a very technical reason:

I like to build my own. For peace of mind (choice of components) & noise (I like "it" as silent as possible)
IF Apple could come around selling a package of an enthusiast DIY-kit (consisting of Mac OS X with basic core-apps and a reasonably fully-featured TPM'ed motherboard with EFI/BIOS-undervolting-capability [required] to base a system on) for an affordable Price -> then I would have jumped the train ages ago. Since they now base their systems on X86-architecture, that would mean no bad compromise, at all!
I would definetely not like to give away my influence on sound- and cooling characteristics of my main machine. I even enjoy to hand-pick drives, heat-sinks, fans, CASES (an over-important part) as I see fit for my needs -- to a degree, of course. "I-Mac" I'm afraid is no option here, Mac-Mini neither. And no, Mac-Pro is not really a contender in the sense of affordable and easy-to-service, low-noise computing.
However I have not yet seen this happening - and I doubt that ever will. I am now in a pinch again: 3 years old rig which proves exactly at the right age to be substantially upgraded (with the ability to even get minimum buck out of the old stuff)
So now I'm investigating stuff to buy.

Apple: you have two weeks. Catch me if you can.

A bit of a shame that "PC", from "IBM compatible Personal Computer", to just "Personal Computer" now came to mean "computer running Windows" when Apple now sells PCs and you can install so many operating systems on them.
What kind of machine are us Unix users supposed to run then ?
(and I also have a Mac with Mac OS and I really don't like it)

Kubuntu Linux all the way. I use Bibble Pro, Noise Ninja in my daily workflow, and The Gimp for some pixel tweaks.

Oh, and I agree with Simo. PC is an abbreviation for "Personal Computer", which can be anything like a Mac, Windows, Linux, SunOS, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, etc. computer.

What do you mean by "Of course these classifications don’t fit with everyone (Linux users…"? Many Linux users use it on PC hardware. PC isn't synonym for Windows!
