I don't actually have a SLR....I have a superzoom (Canon Powershot SX130 IS), which is an upgrade from the point and shoot. The only place I haven't taken it is to church.

I almost always have at least a point and shoot with me. I wear vests all the time so I usually have one or two cameras. My favorite for easy carry and use is my Lumix DMC-FS5, very compact, quick to shoot and zoom. When I want better photos and want to stay light I have my little larger Panasonic DMC-ZS1 which has a 10x zoom and a larger lens. When I want to conceal but get sharper images and some manual capability, I have my Canon G12. It is a brick but performs nicely. I do have some other point and shoots that I keep imy vehicles when I space out and not pack. Then when I am out and about and size is not a big issue, I have my Sony DSC-F828 which gives me a good one lens package 28-200 with a lot of manual capability and super sharp images. Then when I head out with all the seriousness of a photographer, I have my Nikon D5000, tripod and collection of lenses. When all else fails, I have my iPhone.

For convenience, (mostly light weight), I take almost everywhere my Canon SX30 IS P&S which has an amazing 24-840 mm lens with a focus assist feature for the longer range of the lens. It produces very sharp images for such a small camera even at the longest focal lenght, I have made enlargements of 12x18 inches that are very good. Of course the wide angle is great and I can get some creative images with it much easier to see and capture than with my DSLR. I am very happy with it. Of course I would not attempt bird or sports photography with it, but it is great for virtually everything else.

I take my Panasonic TZ5 everywhere, every day. Whenever the circumstances allow me to carry a bit more gear, I take my Nikon DSLR. It seems that if for some reason I don't have a camera with me, the best photo ops present themselves. Driving to work this morning I came across amazing sidewalk art and a larger-than-life paper mache sea captain in someone's front yard and to top things off, there were butterflies everywhere.. My camera, for once, was left sitting on the kitchen table. I'm hoping for the same good photographic juju tomorrow. Oh, well...

I take my camera bag and D2x with me EVERYWHERE. I shoot 20-300 pictures a day depending on the assignment or my mindset. "If it's worth taking, it's worth taking well!" My wife nags me about my camera bag size as in "can I get you a bell-hop?" (It's really not that big) Then when I leave it at home and my wife see's something cool I get razzed when she says "why didn't you bring your camera?" I love it.......

i believe that it has alot to do with age as well. i am a 19 year old college student, i dont generally have a camera with me, although i love photography and do go out on days just for taking photos and sometimes i bring my camera to my friends house, but im at the age where its not practical on the bus / my gear feels precious on my low income / dont want ppl to think im crazy. so no i dont carry one around with me BUT

i know that wen i am a little older and have a generous income i wont worry about putting a thousand bucks to good use. alsoo when i have my own children one day, i can totally see myself carrying a nice big dslr EVERYWHERE with me. infact i know i will. and when im a grandpa, ill never be seen without a camera as well.

also with girls, they have purses so its a bit easier. but id like to know the ages of people on this post as well please :)

Unless I'm just in an awful mood and need a break from the constant camera mode I am always in, the camera is always with me, out and ready.

I always have my dSLR with me - and the cell phone of course - even when I'm out with one of my 'retro' film cameras. The dSLR normally has an older manual focus lens fitted.

My next "best" picture is the one I haven't taken. So I keep my camera with me all the time. I'm constantly looking for shots that would make a good picture, and hopefully via Photoshop make it a Great picture!
