I have no idea why anyone would not use it and choose to fiddle with PS to produce black and white images. I can also second Photomatix Pro 3. I use the standalone application actually. My HDR workflow is just drag and drop the 5, or 7 or 9 images into Photomatix, then let the app crunch the numbers and churn out my HDR image.
