@Kim, I think from reading the instructions that that is exactly what is supposed to happen. You get a selection that contains everything except the text. Then you load the selection you previously made but when you do so you choose the Intersect option, that limits the final selection to just a small box shape.

So, did you make and save a selection? If so. Do as you have done and when you get the selection you think is wrong, keep going and load the saved selection making sure to choose the Intersect option. It should work fine.

If not.. let us know.

I CANNOT get Step 4 to work. I have tried it 14 times now with the same result: Select inverse makes a box around my city's name but also around the entire project! Help!

to go along with what poseidon said, the easiest way to get that box would be:

make new rectangular shape,
open layer effects
set fill opacity to 0%
add stroke, black the right width, inner :D

that way you and change the size of the box if you change the text.

Hi there!
This is really inspiring.
I just wanted to remark: The task to draw this boxes is more easy than you said.
Create the selection and choose edit > fill outline, choose width, position and color - and you're done.
I don't know the method's exact name, as I use a German version.
Have a nice day!
