now i've bought a panasonic fz100 and i study its manual because it is full of options, more than 200 pages;i made this because for video at the same price a camera is much better than a video cam;sharp is better; sensor is 1/2,3 and camcorder has only 1/6 or 1/8; people who don't know more about video say for video is needed camcorder; wrong;i am interested only in video which means life not death like photo

I forgot.. first time that problem was caused because I took a picture using LCD screen, in Macro mode, and (I'm a beginner) I zoomed in... Although in manual it's said "The optical zoom (p. 24) or digital zoom (p. 62) cannot be used" ... It's false, it's not disabled by default, so be careful... (With a Finepix S1600 I tried the same and can't because it's disabled in Macro mode)

Good camera and results.. if you are lucky...

I bought mine last summer and since then, it needed to be repaired 3 times because of LCD rear screen: when using it, image, or what I was watching at through screen started to rotate (without moving cam ^__^), image remained rotated and no response from menu, dial, buttons... I switched off/on and same problem... So my advise, only buy cams with LCD screen built-in...

Sergio

P.S: Sorry, English isn't my mother tongue....

P.S: I like DPS!!!!!!!!

As David I owned the Olympus C740UZ, and I went for the SX20IS. So far I have been delighted with the camera (owned now for 8 months) except for the sports. My daughter is competing in ballroom dancing, and using the sport setup, my pictures all comes blurry. Have tried the manual setting, I'm getting better pictures, but not yet satisfied. But outdoor picturing is really good.

I previously owned an Olympus C740UZ bought 8 years ago, but finally needed to upgrade. I started going through all the reviews, and found that the Canon SX20 IS (and the newer SX30 IS) and Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 (an newer FZ35) were regarded as the best performers in the SuperZoom class. I was able to find the SX30 in local stores, but never found either Lumix. Unfortunately I found that the one of the changes that Canon made for the SX30 was to replace the 4-AA batteries with a custom rechargeable. Over the years I've found that I tend to take 100's of pics a day when on vacation, with over 800 being my single-day record (in multi-shot mode for low-light concert shooting). Canon also seemed to have done away with the flash hot-shoe on the SX30. So I decided to get an SX20 IS instead of the newer SX30.
The camera just arrived a couple days ago, and I have yet to take a first picture on it. But I'm leaving on vacation in a few days, and am really looking forward to seeing what this camera can do, not to mention the difference in quality moving up from a 3MP camera to a 12MP camera!
