Olympus PEN E-PL3 REVIEW

5

For me, this camera is a bit of a puzzle. Why?

Having just spent a week or so with the Olympus PEN E-P3, and coming away very impressed, I wondered why the company launched another model that seems to be virtually identical, except for price and some minor mods. I am now eagerly awaiting the third in the ‘collection: the Mini model.

On the face of it, the E-PL3 LITE is a bargain as a mirrorless, interchangeable lens camera.
In my review you may find that some of the descriptions echo those in my review of the E-P3. Cos that’s how the camera is!

An echo!

Panasonic DMC-G3 REVIEW

In spite of industry leaders Canon not following the trend, Panasonic and Olympus are certainly making hay with their Micro Four Thirds models as we watch Nikon’s exciting entrée with interest.

There is a demand for a faux DSLR that doesn’t break your back nor your budget and still allows access to a fine range of lenses by such companies as Carl Zeiss, Schneider, Sigma … and others.

The aluminium bodied Panasonic DMC-G3 is light and it’s small, ‘suffering’ a 25 per cent reduction, compared with the previous DMC-G2 model. That means you could easily carry the camera body and two lenses in a coat pocket. I know I did, happily stowing into my jacket pocket the review camera, the 14-42mm zoom plus the gorgeous f1.4/25mm aspheric lens … all supplied for this review….

Olympus E-P3 Review

Three months before its official release the photographic press caught its first sight of this new model. This was paralleled by close looks at two related models, near-identical in specs, but differing radically in appearance: welcome also to the Lite E-PL3 and Mini E-PM1.

Olympus considers the E-P3 to be the flagship model of its PEN series of new generation system cameras. It uses the Micro Four Thirds series of interchangeable lenses and is available in silver and black.

The Live MOS sensor has 12.3 million pixels, with a maximum image size of 4032×3024 pixels or 34x26cm as a print. Video is in catchup with Olympus’s peers: Full HD 1920×1080 pixels in AVCHD format or 1280×720 in MPEG4. And ’bout time!

5 Cheap Must-Have Photographic Accessories in our Toolkit

36

Professional quality photography doesn’t have to cost a lot. In fact, so many of the tools and accessories that we use are extremely inexpensive. In this article, we will introduce you to 5 of our favorite little must-have accessories in our photographic toolkit.

Reflectors ($20+)

Reflectors are not only inexpensive, they are one of the most versatile and effective photographic accessories. Reflectors work wonderfully as a main light, fill light, hair light, scrim, and even make for a wonderful little mat to sit on when your clients are worried about dirtying their clothing. Not bad for an accessory that can be picked up for less than $40. In fact, if you are skeptical of just how powerful reflectors can be, check out the two videos below.

In this first video (the iPhone Photo Shoot), we show that you can capture professional quality …
