BLUE: Weekend Photography Challenge

Your challenge this weekend is to photograph and share something Blue!
This challenge is the same as last time we did a color challenge (RED) and should be something that most people can contribute to. Blue skies, oceans…. look around you, you’re bound to find something interesting that is blue.
Once you’ve taken your photos – choose your best 1-2, upload them to your favourite photo sharing site either share a link to them even better – embed them in the comments using the our new tool to do so.
If you tag your photos on Flickr, Twitter or other sites with Tagging tag them as #DPSBLUE to help others find them. Linking back to this page might also help others know what you’re doing so that they can share in the fun.

The sun was about to set, but above the clouds it was still the blue colour dominating. The clouds were reflecting the light. The shot was taken above Bucharest, Romania, and under the clouds, the light was totally different (grey).

My entry… took this the other day at work… working on a very large scale mosaic for the Glazers Children’s Museum in Tampa. This blue section was just laid out on the cement board, no thinset or grouting yet… just placement. Enjoy the BLUE!!!!

I’ve experimented with the white balance. It’s set to 5000K in order to capture the blue light we get when the sun sets during winter here in Norway .

It just so happened I finally took some photos of this morning glory that I drive past every morning on my way to work. It grows up this wire fence that borders the train tracks. I thought that it was great contrast until my Mum told me it was a weed so I guess it’s not really.

Sydney’s Blue Mountains. So named because the mist of eucalyptus oil given off by the millions of gum trees refracts light, creating a blue haze.

The most obvious blue element of this shot is the sky, but if you view it full size the bike is blue also! This was taken in Tel Aviv, Israel, on Jan 17th., shortly before leaving for a two week trip to Greece, which is sure to be a great photographic adventure!

“Smurf Blues Band”
My wife has a collection of old Smurf figures, and I thought I would use that as the basis for the blue task.
Technical stuff:
* Canon 450D;
* Canon 24-105 f4L at 82mm;
* Shot at 1/200 (get rid of ambient) and f11 (keep focus);
* ISO 200.
* Figures on an A3 white paper sweep held up with a light stand and bulldog clip.
Lighting:
* 580EX2 on overhead boom with a very narrow gridspot (home made);
* background lit with a FCTB gelled gridspot close to camera with a glass cookie jar held in front of it to get a bit more of a pattern.

I loved the reflection of the sky in this puddle, so I tried experimenting with some pebbles lying nearby. I’m overall pleased with the results I was able to get! What do you think?

I see people leaving images not precisely shot in the time frame of this assignment, so (since the weather is miserable and I want to stay inside) I’m doing the same. The photo was taken a few days ago in the wee hours of the morning – couldn’t resist the blue sky and bones of winter.

Something blue is producing something red.
I turned off the lights, and sprayed water with red food coloring above the beam of light.
I used a flash to expose the lantern and a thirty-second exposure to expose the red beam of light.

For some reason blue was a tough subject for me, but a school that used blue as its main accent color provided me with inspiration for these pics:

Not for the challenge, but a blue photo that I’m proud of…
pre-dawn photo using ISO 100, tungsten white balance, and a 13 second exposure to create the blue effect. The boat on the left was bobbing up and down the entire time.
The Naval Acadamy is lit on the left of the photo.

Love the photos. Very, very slow loading this page even though I have “high speed”. Others must be having troubles loading photos as I see many duplicates. Is there a better way to showcase a collection such as this? This is really just too time intensive for me! I would rather spend it with my camera than with my computer!!!!!

I took these two pics at the Desert Botanical Garden near Phoenix, AZ last march while taking in some MLB Spring Training Baseball. The first one is a full view of one of the exibits and the second one is a close up. They blown glass sculptures and were there for about a month during the month of March and we were lucky to see them.
Shot both pics with my Canon XTI.
