Behind Every Good Photographer There’s….. Weekly Photography Challenge
Over on Facebook this week I started a thread that asked people to complete the sentence:
“Behind Every Good Photographer There’s…..“
The response to the thread was fantastic (well over 400 responses so far), there was both insightful and funny responses.
A number of readers asked if they could submit visual answers so I thought perhaps it’d make a good weekly assignment. So – finish that sentence, but with an image to show us.
What (or perhaps Who) is behind you as a photographer? Feel free to take your response in any direction, perhaps it is a person, perhaps it’s about your gear, perhaps it is some kind of resource, perhaps its some kind of principle that you can put into a picture.
If you’re lost on what to do – take a look at the answers on the facebook thread to get a little inspiration.
Once you’ve taken your image, upload it to your favourite photo sharing site and either share a link to it below or embed it in the comments using the our new tool to do so. Please also tell us what type of camera phone you were using!
If you tag your photo on Flickr, Twitter or other sites with Tagging tag it as #DPSChallenge to help others find it. Linking back to this page might also help others know what you’re doing so that they can share in the fun.

why is this limited to camera phones? Up until this statement, camera phone was not even mentioned.

….. There’s an LCD screen! The learning speed with digital must be a million times faster than with film. The instant result and ability to shoot as many pictures as the memory card can store without worrying about added cost is amazing. Being able to view the image and adjust my exposure or composition instantly has allowed me to learn and improve in a relatively short time.

My answer? Behind every good photographer is inspiration. Whether some would like to admit it or not, we are influenced by everything around us. A good artist learns from, is inspired by, and builds on what others have taught them and shown them. I am NOT a fan of copying other artists but I do believe in letting your own artwork be inspired by someone else…and it ultimately is whether we realize it or not.
Even when we create something after the style of the “classic” artists such as Van Gogh and Michelangelo were they not inspired by those who came before and so on… and them by the ultimate creator and artist God?
I took this snap shot of an astounding artist I found at our summer art show in town. The colors, the depth, perspective and freshness of his art is so inspiring! Even though he is working in a different medium, I learn so much from just viewing his work.
So…for me…Inspiration and the influences of a myriad of other artists of all varieties are behind any GOOD photographer.

a pair of durable and a well worn out footwear, especially for photographers who prefer shooting with prime lenses, and so, need to zoom with their feet.

Behind every focused photographer there’s a camera bag that shouldn’t have been left there.
The first tip in ] was “move your feet”. Don’t move your feet whilst you’ve got your eye glued to the viewfinder.

… the humbling experience of being bested by your teenaged neice. She is my inspiration. I remember taking her with me when she was 8 or 9, to get a shot of deer in the Smoky Mountains. She told me then that she wanted to be a photographer. And, that, she is…

There’s the thought that this shot would be better if I stood over there, if the light was different, if the subject was posed differently, and dozens of other thoughts. To me, the value of a great photograph comes not only from the shot itself, but from what the photographer learned from the shoot.

Behind every photographer is the desire to share experiences, to record the moment, to capture an instant and to communicate with others. Whether it’s the final maple leaf hanging to an autumn branch or family members believing faces listening to my husband telling one of his tall tales with a gleam in his eye, each moment is precious.

Well, I think it’s photographer’s own naked bottom (original picture), then the clothes covering it (photoshop) and lastly the empty wallet in the back pocket (desperate source of inspiration). You need something else?
