I make it a point that I carry my CanonA410 in my bag, going to my work as a teacher. and I made so many great candid shots with my students on their classroom activities. But on weekends, if I can, go on a date with my Canon Rebel to to the country side shooting anything, everything that's picture taking.

Update to everyone... most likely the authorities will have a great thought on P&S camera because it easy to hide.. and you can shoot some restricted area. I always have my dSLR camera(EOS 7D with lens kit) even when i go to work.. and takenote with Battery Grip.. because of a better grip when i want to shoot.. Its not a hindrance to me the bulky and heavy camera that I had.. in the first place thats the main reason thats why you buy a SLR cam.. to capture the every moment in a professional way even if you're a newbie. and who knows maybe tomorrow you can not hold anymore youre expensive gear. Just be prepare with proper ID if authorities start asking question..

As i had experience, bringing your camera with you is getting to know more the function and features of your camera.. Just make sure to secure your gear.. whenever you go.. better framing.. and exposure is on the go.. So go for the CLICK of your life guys!!!!...

I agree. If I find my Canon DSLR bulky in, the least I could do is to bring my smaller compact carmera anywhere. There are always potential view/shots everywhere.

I don't own any SLR, but to think of carrying with me everyday seem unlikely due to the size and weight. However I do carry a digital camera Fujifilm F30fd with me whenever I go. I would use my phone camera to take that shot of the moment if time is the factor. Retrieving my phone is faster compare with DC from my bag.

Because I ALWAYS take a camera with me I was able last year to get the only picture of the first time my first grandchild stood by himself! It was awesome! And really a picture to be treasured by me and mom!

Because I carry my camera with me everywhere with me I no longer use auto mode and very seldom use my flash any more...I do my best not be intrusive with my photography and when you learn to use your camera in all situations it means you must have your camera with you in all situations

I just purchased a Canon SD870IS(P&S)cam, found my old cellphone belt-holster, and found out that the cam fits perfectly into it.
=)
So I'm planning to take it with me as often as possible because it's a rather small camera and doesn't cause much of a hastle as ...say a DSLR(even though the image quality is beyond comparison, I'm not a professional photographer, so I don't need one yet)

Oh, and I recommend the Canon G9(12MP) for those who love manual settings, but can't carry around a DSLR.

Took my camera everywhere during 1 month in 2002. Got a winning shot that has made me over $15,000 over 5 years. All because I didn’t leave it in the bag at home.
